飲水思源

I was tasked to produce resist dyeing, pattern printing and embroidery onto a sampler,
according to the theme "The Eyes Of Spring".

Inspired by the water motif in Eyes(tears) and Spring (natural water),
the proverb, 飲水思源 came to mind.

It directly translates to remembering the source of water when you take a drink,
meaning to be grateful.

I extracted the line "I call you by name, you are mine."(Isaiah 43)
from a letter from my mother that celebrated steadfast love.

My mother's handwriting embroidered in glass beads,
against a hidden print inspired by light reflecting on water,
onto a fabric stained to recall ripples;
The design is invisible under normal light.

The message becomes clear when back-lit,
inducing an intimate discovery
to echo the personal quality of this piece.

Double layered rosette dyeing for a softer ripple-effect.
